Stairlift FAQs

« Blog

Over the years, we have noticed we're asked the same questions about stairlifts time and time again. So we thought we'd try and make things easier, by putting them all into a FAQ list for you to take a look at.

What kind of Stairlift do I need?
This is dependant on the staircase you have. It will either be a straight, or curved rail option.

How long does installation take?
In most case, it can take 3 to 4 hours, depending upon the complexity of the staircase.

How is my Stairlift powered?
Battery-powered, with charging points at the top and bottom of the rail.

What happens if there is a power cut?
The Stairlift will still operate using battery power. With a good condition battery, your stairlift should still be able to operate several journeys.

Is it fixed to the wall?
No. Stairlift feet that support the rail are fixed to the staircase treads.

Will it ruin my stairs?
The stairlift feet have to be drilled into the floor and may leave indentations in the carpet after removal. The integrity of the staircase will not be affected.

Can other people still use the stairs?
The Stairlift arms and seat can fold away, allowing access past the carriage when it is in the parked position.

How frequently should I have my Stairlift serviced?
We recommend annually.

Is the Stairlift noisy?
Stairlifts are mains powered and whilst operate on a motor-powered lifting device, are relatively quiet.

How much weight can a Stairlift carry?
Our curved Stairlifts have a maximum of 19 stone, whereas the straight Stairlifts have a maximum capacity of 20 stone, with an optional upgrade to 25 stone.

What warranty do I get with my Stairlift?
All of our Stairlifts come with a 12-month manufacturers warranty, with optional warranty extensions available.

If my Stairlift breaks down, who do I contact?
Call the number on the Stairlift carriage, or us on 01905 29950.

What happens if something gets in the way of my Stairlift?
Our Stairlifts have safety sensors placed on various parts of the stairlift which detect obstructions in the carriages path.

How much does it cost to run a Stairlift?
You should expect a Stairlift to cost less than £10 a year in electricity; that's cheaper than your washing machine which could cost you £50 per year depending on use.

How fast do Stairlifts travel?
Generally, Stairlifts travel between 0.16mph - 0.34mph, ensuring a safe and comfortable ride.
